Within our schools students select from a menu of rigorous courses in the core academic subjects, along with the arts, foreign languages, advanced placement courses, and professional technical studies. The DoDEA content standards provide a consistent framework and vision for our children’s academic growth. Support services and programs, to include gifted education, English as a Second Language (ESL), special education, and early intervention programs like Sure Start, are already in place to support and challenge our students. A host of co-curricular programs compliment the classroom learning experiences providing avenues for developing interests, maintaining community involvement, and expanding cultural awareness. More information on our programs and activities can be found on our website at www.pac.dodea.edu.
Our administrators take student achievement seriously and join the ranks of schools throughout the United States focusing on improving student success - specifically in the areas of mathematics and literacy. In mathematics, algebra coaches, support labs, and training for elementary and secondary teachers continues to guarantee solid instruction in our classrooms. In reading, our Pacific Literacy Project and the Read 180 programs have a proven track record of success with struggling readers.
Through the Foreign Language in the Elementary Schools (FLES) pilot initiative our schools provide children the opportunity to participate in a global society. The goals of FLES are to build capacity in foreign languages at the earliest age possible and to implement foreign language instruction as an integral part of the core curriculum for all K-8 students. In middle and high schools young adults may enroll in Mandarin Chinese as part of the DoDEA focus on increasing proficiency in strategic languages.
As a nation we are concerned about the health and wellness of our children. Health education will be in the forefront this year as teachers implement the new DoDEA health standards and adopted curriculum materials.
Due to the mobility of our United States Military Personnel, we are prepared to assist families and students as they transition between DoDEA schools and stateside public schools. Our school counselors have been trained specifically to help students and families adjust to change.
