Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is a DoD Field Activity responsible for the oversight of two school systems, the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary & Secondary Schools (DDESS). DoDEA employs more than 12,000 individuals responsible for educating approximately 90,000 students in 12 foreign countries, seven states, Guam, and Puerto Rico. The mission of DoDEA is to provide a quality education from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve for the eligible minor family members of DoD military and civilian personnel on official assignments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilizing knowledge of skills and content of discipline together with experience in teaching the grade levels or specialization of this position, the incumbent plans, develops, and organizes long-range lesson plans and daily class work in a manner that will ensure adequate coverage within the time frame allotted for the discipline content and skills required to meet approved course outlines and curriculum objectives.
Conducts classroom instruction using modern professional teaching principles, practices and techniques appropriate to the subject matter or grade levels(s) of assignment. Uses imagination and judgment in selecting, adapting, or modifying teaching methods or materials that experience indicates will be most effective in teaching the grade level(s) or subject matter of the disciplines; facilitates variations to accommodate individual differences, interests, and abilities; stimulates interest and motivation; and improves the quality of instruction. Trains and encourages students to develop skills in research, making maximum use of educational centers.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must be currently certified or certifiable under the current DoDEA standards for 0370 Teacher (Chinese Mandarin). If you are not currently certified for these categories, transcripts will be required with your application.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
DoDEA or State certificate as a Chinese (Mandarin) Language Teacher
or,
DoDEA or State certificate as a secondary classroom teacher in any category AND Chinese (Mandarin) communication skill as verified by an ACTFL Foreign Language Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) rating of at least an intermediate high score.
or,
Applicants must possess four of the following:
1. Chinese (Mandarin) communication skill as verified by an ACTFL Foreign Language Oral Proficiency interview (OP1) rating of at least an intermediate high score; and
2. English language communication skill as verified by an ACTFL English Language
Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) rating of at least an intermediate high score; and
3. A baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting
4. 15 semester hours in "professional teacher education" methods courses before the third year of employment; and
5. DoDEA or State certificate as a secondary classroom teacher by the end of the fifth school year of employment. Credits or degrees earned from a foreign college or university must be evaluated prior to acceptance*; and

1) Evaluated and interpreted by the International Education Research Foundation, Inc., Credential Evaluation Service, Post Office Box 3665, Culver City, CA 90231-3665 or www.icrf.org/ or telephone (310) 258-9451.
2) The foreign institution which awarded the degree is on a list endorsed by a regionally accredited university or on a list endorsed by a state department of education for the purpose of teacher certification in that state (this procedure will require an English translation of the transcript and a copy of the document awarding the degree, together with an authenticated list produced by an American university or a state department of education; or
3) The work may be evaluated by a graduate division of a regionally accredited university and declared the equivalent of similar undergraduate or graduate work in a U.S. institution.
PAY, BENEFITS AND WORK SCHEDULE:
Incumbent may be eligible for Government/Military housing at prescribed rental rates, depending on availability. Cost of Living Allowance, and other non-foreign benefits may be authorized. Eligibility will be determined at time of position offer. Applicants who are currently employed in the non-foreign and are not receiving allowances or benefits may not be eligible for such allowances. Locality pay does not apply in the Guam area. Locality rates of pay in CONUS will not be used for pay-setting when transferring to this non-foreign overseas area.
Medical Care: Applicants who have family members with special medical needs should ensure that prior to accepting a position overseas their family members' medical needs can be met. Access to care in a military treatment facility may not be available to civilian employees except on a space available basis. Consequently, host nation medical facilities may be the only care available. The availability and level of care at host nation medical facilities will vary by location. Special Education Services: The Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) provides education including special education to children of DoD civilians who are eligible to attend DoDDS schools. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Selectee will be required to participate in direct deposit/electronic fund transfer in accordance with DoD Regulation 7000.14R.
Initial overseas tour of duty for Guam is- 2 years.
Selected candidate and family members are required to obtain Official Passports prior to departure to a Department of Defense position.

Physical examination is required.
