ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER:         09-038-GU PHYSICAL THERAPIST

SALARY RANGE:                              $49,059 - $103,139.00 per school year
                                                             Plus 25% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) non-taxable

LOCATION:                                        DoDDS Pacific/DDESS Guam, Guam District Schools

Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is a DoD Field Activity responsible for the oversight of two school systems, the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary & Secondary Schools (DDESS).  DoDEA employs more than 12,000 individuals responsible for educating approximately 90,000 students in 12 foreign countries, seven states, Guam, and Puerto Rico.  The mission of DoDEA is to provide a quality education from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve for the eligible minor family members of DoD military and civilian personnel on official assignments.

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: This is an excepted service position.

Payment of travel and transportation expenses may be authorized.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides direct physical therapy services to students as determined by Case Study Committee (CSC).  Establishes standards for student’s participation in physical therapy. Consults with physicians regarding treatments and schedules for treatment in accordance with available personnel and equipment. Maintains a keen awareness of student(s) progress. Evaluates student(s) needs and works with on and off post agencies to ensure that students have appropriate assistive devices.

Monitors student(s) on individual and group basis to evaluate actions and reactions to prescribed treatment. Evaluates, develops and implements intervention plan(s) to facilitate functional performance required to benefit from educational program. Tests and evaluates gross motor functioning, range, motion and positioning needs. Devises or determines adaptation to meet specific needs of the student. Produces written assessment reports.

 QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must posses a Bachelor’s degree that included or was supplemented by Physical Therapy curriculum approved by a recognized professional accreditation organization at the time the curriculum was completed. Licensure: Must pass a state-administered national examination.

PAY, BENEFITS AND WORK SCHEDULE:

Incumbent may be eligible for Government/Military housing at prescribed rental rates, depending on availability.  Cost of Living Allowance, and other non-foreign benefits may be authorized. Eligibility will be determined at time of position offer. Applicants who are currently employed in the non-foreign and are not receiving allowances or benefits may not be eligible for such allowances. Locality pay does not apply in the Guam area.  Locality rates of pay in CONUS will not be used for pay-setting when transferring to this non-foreign overseas area.

Medical Care:  Applicants who have family members with special medical needs should ensure that prior to accepting a position overseas their family members' medical needs can be met.  Access to care in a military treatment facility may not be available to civilian employees except on a space available basis.  Consequently, host nation medical facilities may be the only care available.  The availability and level of care at host nation medical facilities will vary by location.  For additional information, please contact the POC in this announcement. 

Special Education Services:  The Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) provides education including special education to children of DoD civilians who are eligible to attend DoDDS schools.  However, most schools are not staffed for all special needs.  For additional information, please the Department of Defense Education Activity, Student Services Branch, at 703-588-3147/3148.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Selectee will be required to participate in direct deposit/electronic fund transfer in accordance with DoD Regulation 7000.14R.

Overseas tour of duty for Guam is- 2 years.

Selected candidate and family members are required to obtain Official Passports prior to departure to a Department of Defense position.

If selected candidate is not currently residing in the foreign overseas area, completion of a pre-employment
Physical examination is required.
