LOCATION: Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS), Japan District
Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is a DoD Field Activity responsible for the oversight of two school systems, the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary & Secondary Schools (DDESS). DoDEA employs more than 12,000 individuals responsible for educating approximately 90,000 students in 12 foreign countries, seven states, Guam, and Puerto Rico. The mission of DoDEA is to provide a quality education from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve for the eligible minor family members of DoD military and civilian personnel on official assignments.
* NOTE: These positions are not located at all schools or complexes. Vacancies for these positions may be filled occasionally. The majority of these positions are part-time seasonal and the above salary schedules are based on full-time year-round. The salary paid will be based on the number of hours worked per year.

METHOD OF REFERRAL: Qualified candidates will be referred for employment consideration in accordance with governing laws, regulations, and procedures. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as monitor responsible for performing lunchroom, recess, classroom and bus monitoring duties. Assembles students at designated points and monitors dismissal and movement through hall while moving students to the cafeteria. Monitors lunchroom activities and designated recess area. Monitors lunchroom cleanup and assures students place paper and uneaten food into appropriate disposal receptacles. Assemble the students for designated lineup areas for return to classrooms. Also monitors recess area assuring safe recess activities.
KSA: ABILITY TO WORK WITH OTHERS
This position is equivalent to the GS-02 level. In order to receive consideration for this position, should describe 3 months of any training or experience in work or outside contacts that demonstrates to your ability to deal tactfully with other people or; high school graduate or equivalent.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as lead monitor, overseeing monitors who perform lunchroom, recess and bus monitoring duties in a DoDEA school, ensuring the safety and welfare of students. The monitor identifies and reports known or suspected problems, issues or concerns to the appropriate staff or faculty member. The lead monitor develops and maintains shift schedules, assigns work and instructs employees in performance of their tasks; provides on-the job training instructions and deals with student behavior and discipline issues. Assembles students at designated points and monitors movement and behavior through corridors, at the cafeteria, recess or play areas. Also monitors dismissal as students leave class and go to school buses or parent’s cars. Monitors recess areas. Performs bus monitoring duties where applicable and assures students safely enter and exit buses, and are placed on the correct buses.
KSA: ABILITY TO PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS TO SUBORDINATES
This position is equivalent to the GS-03 level. In order to receive consideration for this position, should describe 6 months of any training or experience to lead other subordinates by providing instructions, and to deal objectively and harmoniously with them or; one-year above high school. |

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists teachers and administrative staff by distributing testing materials, developing audio-visual tactile aids, tutoring selected pupils, supervising independent study, making field trip arrangements, or working with pupils to develop student self-help skills.
The following positions are equivalent to the GS-04 level. In order to receive consideration for this position, applicants should describe one-year of general experience or; 2 years above high school.
Educational Aid (Kindergarten):
KSA: ABILITY TO ASSIST WITH IMPLEMENTATION OF THE FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION.
Candidates should describe experience, education and/or training working with young children that demonstrates their ability to assist in providing early childhood education.
Educational Aid (Special Education):
KSA: ABILITY TO PROVIDE SPECIALIZED SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES.Candidates should describe experience; education and/or training that demonstrate their ability to provide support services to children with disabilities in an educational environment. Include all experience gained in any capacity with disabled individuals in an educational, social, or recreational environment which provided knowledge of the specialized requirements of disabled individuals.
Educational Aid (Sure Start Program Assistant):
KSA: KNOWLEDGE OF PROGRAMS PERTAINING TO EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT.
Candidates should describe all experience, education, and/or training gained in any capacity with children, especially pre-kindergarten ages, in all education, social, or recreational environment, that involved the learning, health/nutrition, or social activities of pre-kindergarten children.
** SURE START SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: In addition to the minimum qualifications requirements described above, applicants must have the ability to administer basic first aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), or successfully complete such training within one year of appointment.

Respond to letters and inquiries. Compile information for administrative and recurring technical reports. Type a variety of correspondence, forms, reports and statistical material. Maintain faculty and staff personnel folders. Prepares school bulletins, parents’ newsletters, and faculty and parent handbooks and performs the tasks of the school registrar. This position requires the skills of a qualified typist.
KSA: KNOWLEDGE OF AND SKILL IN OPERATING VARIOUS OFFICE AUTOMATION EQUIPMENT AND FUNCTIONS.
This position is equivalent to the GS-05 level. In order to receive consideration, candidates should describe one-year specialized experience of office automation software, practices, and procedures; in the performance of general office support work and competitive level of proficiency in typing or; 4 years above high school.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as a secretary and personal assistant to the school principal and assistant principal. Coordinates other clerical work and establishes priorities for the assigned office staff. Performs a variety of office support duties, e.g. receives telephone calls and visitors, answers questions and provides information of a routine nature based on knowledge of programs and operations, maintains school’s office calendar, prepares various documents and correspondence. Coordinate personnel and payroll actions for all faculty and staff. In addition, the school secretary interacts continually with students to resolve problems, communicate with parents and handle other situations unique to a school environment. This position requires the skills of a qualified typist.
KSA: KNOWLEDGE OF OFFICE ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS AND PROCESSES.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs a variety of technical tasks in support of automated systems, including database management, e.g. develops, updates, and administers for a school the School Information System (SIS); performs automated data processing (ADP) support and service functions for users of microcomputer systems for general office automation; supports Local Area Network (LAN) operations and supports electronic mail/data transmission systems. This position requires the skills of a qualified typist.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT FOR SCHOOL SUPPORT ASSISTANT/COORDINATOR:
The work is partly sedentary, but regularly includes walking, bending, standing, carrying or lifting items up to 40 pounds; elevating boxes weighing 40 pounds above shoulder height; and loading/unloading vehicles.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides school support services in a DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam school/office. Prepares supply and equipment orders within specified budget/time constraints based on faculty and/or staff requests. Sets or revises appropriate stock levels for authorized items. Maintain a perpetual inventory of accountable property. Examines items received and takes action to resolve any discrepancies. Records all transactions in the automated material management system document register. Perform a variety of light maintenance and repair work for the school. Transport materials in official vehicles.
KSA: KNOWLEDGE OF SUPPLY PROCEDURES, INCLUDING AUTOMATED SUPPLY SYSTEMS.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares and conducts hands-on training for new school support personnel and administrators. Periodically reviews system-generated products and files to ensure school support personnel in the complex or district are using the system properly, are responding to information queries in a timely manner, and are forwarding necessary documentation to the appropriate activities. Ensures school support personnel provide density listings to the supporting military installation (s) for equipment maintenance and repair requirements. Surveys the complex schools to ensure excess materiel is identified, offered for redistribution to other schools, or processed for transfer or disposal. Position is designated as the Government Ordering Official, purchases supplies and services for the district or complex using the Government Purchase Card (GPC) for individual purchases up to $25,000.00. Assist administrators with overall district or school complex safety and security duties. Provide technical direction to school support personnel in compiling data to forecast the budget for replenishment, repair, and maintenance of supplies and equipment, and other related school support services.
KSA: KNOWLEDGE OF SUPPLY PROCEDURES, INCLUDING AUTOMATED SUPPLY SYSTEMS.
This position is equivalent to the GS-07 level. In order to receive consideration for this position, candidates must possess 1 year of specialized experience, that has equipped them with the skills to perform clerical and support duties related to supply matters, including the use of automated supply systems. Examples include; requisitioning supplies or equipment, inventorying and/or storing supplies and equipment, tracking orders, maintaining stock levels of supplies or equipment, property book management, and property disposal. |
