Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is a DoD Field Activity responsible for the oversight of two school systems, the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary & Secondary Schools (DDESS). DoDEA employs more than 12,000 individuals responsible for educating approximately 90,000 students in 12 foreign countries, seven states, Guam, and Puerto Rico. The mission of DoDEA is to provide a quality education from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve for the eligible minor family members of DoD military and civilian personnel on official assignments.
The Osan American HS (Grades 7-12) is located on Osan Air Base just 48 miles from the DMZ, 20 miles south of Seoul, and is home to the ‘Mustangs” of the 51st Fighter Wing and 24 tenant units, including 7th Air Force. Osan Air Base opened its runways to Americans in 1952. Osan American High School is very much a major center of activity for the community. While education of it’s students is goal one, the facility is widely known as a center for cultural and community affairs.

This vacancy announcement may be used to fill more than one high school Principal position within the Korea District for School Year 2008-2009. Referral lists may be issued up to 90 days after the May 21, 2008 closing date.

Duties and Responsibilities: Serves as the instructional leader who monitors the delivery and evaluation of the education program and manages the facilities, personnel matters, and logistical support for a school.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: A Master’s degree in educational administration or a Master’s degree inclusive of 45 semester hours of graduate credit with a minimum of 30 semester hours of graduate credit in school administration, curriculum development, and supervision of instruction (or similar supervision related coursework).
GENERAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching, specialist, or other professional educator experience at any level is required.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Appropriate experience (elementary and/or secondary) in a staff or supervisory position which clearly demonstrated the ability to administer school educational programs and to effectively supervise educators and support personnel. No more than one year of experience in positions that did not involve actual school administration will be credited as specialized experience.
Applicants must meet minimum qualification standards for course work by the time the application is submitted. Teaching/administrator experience requirements must be met by the end of SY 2007-2008.

Government/Military housing, Living Quarters Allowance, Post Allowance, and other overseas benefits may be authorized. Eligibility will be determined at time of position offer. Medical Care: Applicants who have family members with special medical needs should ensure that prior to accepting a position overseas their family members' medical needs can be met. Access to care in a military treatment facility may not be available to civilian employees except on a space available basis. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Initial overseas tour of duty for Osan, Korea is 2 years.
Selected candidate and family members are required to obtain Official Passports prior to departure to a Department of Defense position.
