TORII STATION, Okinawa, Japan - DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam will sponsor the 30th Far East Honor Music Festival at Yokota Air Base beginning April 20 and ending on April 24.
Student musicians, representing 12 DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam schools will be participating. Students have competed in a stringent audition process which began last November with preparation of an audio recording by each instrumentalist and vocalist. The judging of the instrumental recordings was performed by members of the 7th Fleet Navy Band, while vocal judging was completed by elementary and middle school music educators and community partners.
Approximately 180 student musicians will meet at Yokota Air Base. They will spend four days rehearsing, completely immersed in the music. On April 24 at 6:30 PM in the Taiyo Community Center on Yokota AB, students will have the opportunity to show their dedication and commitment to music. The concert is free and open to the public.
“I wish to thank the teachers and parents for making these experiences possible for our students. Their dedication to the arts serves as an inspiration and supports our commitment to providing our students with opportunities to enjoy and participate in musical concerts. Congratulations to all our participating students.” said Dr. Nancy Bresell, Director, DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam.
