DODDS-PACIFIC/DDESS-GUAM HIGHLIGHTS CHANGES IN ELIGIBILITY FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR

TORII STATION, Okinawa, Japan -- The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) announced the cancellation of Department of Defense Regulation 1342.13 and reissuing the policy using the same number on August 11.  This process clears the way for the official adaptation of changes to eligibility codes allowing children of DoD contractors and civilian employees in the Pacific to attend our schools.  “The children of Federal DoD contractors can now be enrolled in DoDDS (not DDESS) in a space-guaranteed, tuition-paying status rather than space-available,” explained Dr. Nancy Bresell, Director, DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam.

Under the new guidelines, which were conditionally announced in February of this year , the children of full-time, locally hired NAF and AF employees, who are U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals, will be eligible to attend on a space-required, tuition-free basis. The children of DoD contractors will be eligible to attend DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam schools on a space-guaranteed, tuition-paying basis.

The cancellation of the DoD Regulation and its replacement with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13 is the result of a two-year process of negotiation for the expansion of eligibility by the Dependents Education Council. DoDEA Regulation 1342.13 is on the web at: http://www.dodea.edu/foia/iod/pdf/1342_13.pdf
