On Monday, January 5, 2004, Dr. Nancy C. Bresell, DoDDS Pacific
Director, announced the selection of Mr. Charles Toth as
the new superintendent for Korea District, Department of
Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS), Pacific.
Mr. Toth comes to the Pacific from the position of Assistant Superintendent for
Curriculum and Instruction for the Bavaria District Schools, Kitzingen, Germany.
He has served in that position since September 2000. Prior to that Mr. Toth spent
several years as a high school principal at Wuerzburg High School in Germany
and Alconbury High School in England. He served as assistant principal at Lakenheath
High School, Lakenheath, England; Frankfurt Middle School and Frankfurt High
School, Frankfurt, Germany, beginning in 1996. Teaching assignments in Germany
included Frankfurt High School, Giessen High School, and Bitburg High School.
He joined DoDDS in 1980 with a teaching assignment at Osterholz High School,
Osterholz, Germany.
Prior to coming to DoDDS, Mr. Toth taught at Chesterville Junior High School
located in Sparta, Ohio, and at Valley High School and Magnolia High School located
in Wetzel County, West Virginia. Mr. Toth’s career spans 37 years, the
last 24 with the Department of Defense Dependents Schools.
Mr. Toth acquired his Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from
National Louis University in 1991. He is a 1966 graduate of West Virginia University
where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education.
Mr. Toth has been active in several professional organizations including serving
as president of the Germany Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. He is a member of the
Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the Federal Managers
Association. He is past president of the International Chapter of the National
Association of Secondary School Principals and the Federal Managers Association.
Dr. Bresell stated, "Mr. Toth’s belief in the importance of the entire
school community is extraordinary, and we are very fortunate to have this superbly
qualified individual as one of our DoDDS Pacific leaders. He brings to the Korea
District the philosophy that schools exist for the students, parents, and communities
that they serve.”
Mr. Toth’s wife is a teacher at Wuerzburg Middle School. They have five
daughters—the youngest is a senior in high school. Mr. Toth is a native
of Morgantown, West Virginia.
Mr. Toth replaces Dr. Bruce Jeter, who was selected to the position of district
superintendent for Puerto Rico and Cuba, Domestic Dependents Elementary and Secondary
Schools (DDESS).
