DoDDS
Pacific Test Scores Are Strong When Measured Against DoDEA
Goals
|
Standardized
test results on the 2003 TerraNova 2nd Edition show that DoDDS
Pacific students continue to achieve at above average levels
on all tests at all grade levels tested. The scores also showed
that in some grades and subject areas DoDDS Pacific students
are already meeting the high student achievement goals established
by the DoDEA Community Strategic Plan (CSP).
One DoDEA goal for 2006 states that 75% of all students will
perform within the top two national quarters on a systemwide
assessment like the TerraNova. Examination of the 45 subtest
scores in all subject areas (Reading, Language, Mathematics,
Social Studies, and Science) at all grade levels (3-11), reveals
that that the goal has already been achieved or exceeded in 20%
of the cases. According to Dr. Nancy Bresell, Director, DoDDS
Pacific, “Our continued focus on educational leadership,
standards based instruction and professional development for
educators is key to ensuring that all students reach high levels
of achievement. DoDEA has set very challenging goals, and I am
very pleased with our students’ performance. In grades
9-11 the goal has been attained early in that 75% of our students
performed within the top two national quarters in Reading and
Language.”
The Community Strategic Plan also established a goal for 2006
that fewer than 8% of students would perform in the bottom quarter
of students nationwide (e.g., below the 25th percentile). The
DoDDS Pacific 2003 TerraNova results show that students have
met or exceeded the goal on 33% of the subtests. An additional
44% of the scores are within two percentage points of the goal.
DoDDS Pacific has as few as 4% scoring at that level at some
grades. These findings are consistent with DoDDS outstanding
performance on the National Assessment of Educational Progress
(NAEP) which has received nationwide media attention. |
