Today is bitter sweet…as we embrace change and new challenges. This wonderful learning facility has given many students the foundation necessary to pursue life long dreams both professionally and personally. The laughter, friendships, and experiences witnessed by so many students and teachers will never be forgotten. Just like the education we receive, no one can ever take away the fond memories of the students and teachers who attended this school.
I want to talk for a few minutes about DoDDS because it is so special. Being a DoDDS teacher or a DoDDS Brat is something you can be proud of, but more important, it’s something you can hold on to for the rest of your lives. As students and teachers you also have something that most people don't: You have incredible role models. As our service members fight terror or advance freedom, they are changing people's lives, ensuring our liberties. Being part of this community in South Korea you too, serve. The courage with which you do so is an inspiration to everyone. You face the challenges of moving to new bases, new schools, even new countries, and you do all this with enthusiasm and commitment. I am proud of each and every one of you.
Wherever you go in life, there are a few things I hope you'll always remember. First, treasure your education and the time you spent here. Remember that education represents freedom and it never ends. Therefore, I encourage you strive to learn every day. I also hope you learn from your mistakes. Mistakes make life interesting and meaningful.
As the saying goes, when one door closes ... another opens. For the students, and members of our faculty at Pusan American School, I wish you well as you move to new communities and schools. I hope the many fond memories of your time here will remain with you as you move on to new places and new challenges.
On behalf of my staff and everyone throughout DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam I wish everyone – students, teachers, administrators, and support personnel – fond memories of your days at Pusan American School and continued success.
