A Message from the Director, DoDDS Pacific
Special Education POM
|
It is my great pleasure to inform
you that DoDEA Headquarters received word that we have been
awarded a POM for increased funding for special education.
We all share in the excitement of receipt of this award and
appreciate everyone in DoDEA and the Military components who
supported the submission of the special education POM. Beginning
in FY 2004, this POM will result in $56 million and 114.5
positions to DoDEA over the next six years. This additional
funding will address increased staffing for assessment teams
to maximize instructional time for students, standardize curriculum
across all DoDEA regional areas, and provide extensive professional
development to special needs educators, regular classroom
teachers, administrators, and parents. Funding also satisfies
requirements for specialized equipment and furnishings for
students with moderate to severe disabilities. A press release
will be going out from DoDEA in the near future.
I offer a special thank you
to those of you in DoDDS Pacific who helped in this process
and thank you for your commitment to the principles of IDEA.
This POM will help us identify system-wide objectives that
will enhance our special education services and programs that
serve and support our military families with children with
disabilities.
This is good news for DoDEA
and will provide resources critical for us to improve our
services to children with disabilities.
