1999 Far East Technology Web Conference |
The first Far East Technology Web Conference was held in Tokyo, Japan, November 31December 4, 1999. The training provided a basic model for the development of an official web site at each district and school within the Pacific. Fifty-five Compaq Pentium workstations and monitors were set up for participants use during the five-day workshop.
Participants engaged in hands-on training using Netscape Composer and Adobe PageMill HTML authoring software. Additional training was given in file management techniques and digital image manipulation using Adobe PhotoShop LE.
Web POCs learned to assemble text, data, artwork, digital images, and other material for their schools web site. The training emphasized web content, layout, and design.

Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Headquarters provided trainers to work with Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) Pacific Deputy Directors Office staff members to present the regulations, policies, and guidelines for the development of responsible and safe web sites. DSO Korea and DSO Japan each provided a trainer for the HTML authoring portion of the web conference.
Participants gained skills in basic computer operations and troubleshooting techniques; the use of peripheral equipment such as digital cameras and video input devices; and the basics of good school web site design.
