2001 Principals' Conference |
More than 40 principals from Guam, Korea, Japan, and Okinawa attended the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) Pacific Principals' Conference in Tokyo, January 29-February 2, 2001. The purpose of the conference was to provide principals with the latest research and practical applications in effective teaching and learning. As instructional leaders, principals support school improvement and staff development, which are the foundations for student learning and achievement. Principals were given specific training in activities and practices that result in increased student performance.
In her message to principals, Dr. Nancy C. Bresell, DoDDS Pacific Deputy Director, stated, "We have an extraordinary challenge to create school environments that center on high standards, accountability, collegial learning, and community satisfaction." The conference gives principals new tools to cultivate caring schools with high standards, and to build partnerships with teachers, parents, and military organizations critical to achieving the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) mission.
The conference included addresses from the DoDEA Director, the 5th AF/USFJ Commander, the Vice President of Teaching and Learning, The College Board. Guests included Pacific Teachers of the Year, Federal Education Association (FEA) representatives, and members from the Pacific Theater Education Council (PTEC).
