2000 Paraeducator Supervision Academy |
The Paraeducator Supervision Academy was a two-day course that provided the professional educator with core knowledge and skills to work effectively in teams composed both of professionals and paraeducators. A consultant from the University of Colorado trained Special Education professionals throughout Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) Pacific during January 2000.
Participants learned about the distinctions between professional and paraprofessional roles and responsibilities, liability, and ethical issues. They developed skills in establishing working relationships, assessing personal supervisory skills, building work schedules and instructional plans, identifying career development areas for paraeducators through needs assessment and using feedback to improve the job performance of paraeducators.
The paraeducator provides instructional and other direct services to children, youth, and their families in order to support and assist the educator in the facilitation of special education services. The paraeducators are valued and respected members of our organization working with students who have disabilities from mild to servere. These individuals perform a vital service to families with special needs children within DoDDS Pacific schools.
