1999 Assistant Principals' Conference |
The 13th annual Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS ) Pacific Assistant Principals' Conference was held November 1-5, 1999, at the New Sanno Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. The conference theme, Schools and Communities: Partners in the Millennium, focused on the importance of leaders working with our entire school community to ensure students receive the high quality education they need for success in a fast-paced, global society.
The Yokota High School Jazz Band provided morning entertainment to more than 80 participants. Their performance is an outstanding example of how DoDDS Pacific schools bring student talent and achievements to community members.
Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Interim Director, Mr. Ray Tolleson, provided the keynote address and discussed the six C's of successful leadership: commitment, communication, collaboration, congruency, compassion, and continuous improvement.
General sessions provided participants with insights and tools to help them in their efforts to meet all learners' needs and focused on partnerships, evaluation, assessment, accountability, relationships, and personal fitness.
Affinity groups consisted of community experts sharing their expertise, offering tips, and answering questions on school-related issues. Contributors included representatives from Pacific Stars & Strips and AFN Pacific Report. |
For more than a decade DoDDS Pacific has brought education leaders together to provide a forum for social and intellectual interaction because we believe that school-based leadership requires ongoing, collaborative learning by all educators in a school.
