| 2003 Assistant Principals' Conference |
The
annual Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS)
Pacific Assistant Principals Conference, held
in Tokyo, Japan from January 2731, 2003, addressed
the initiatives that are being implemented under
the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Community
Strategic Plan (CSP). The theme of the conference was
Leading Learning: Literacy at the Center.
The conference
provided guidance for administrators on how to lead
schools in using research-based practices to promote
literacy in all subject areas. It also capitalized
on our agencys theme, DoDEA Reads, and the |
|
Presidents national education agenda to leave no child behind. Special guests included DoDDS Pacific Teachers of the Year and a representative from the Federal Employees Association.
|
Administrators
heard addresses from Dr. Joseph Tafoya, DoDEA Director;
Dr. Elizabeth Middlemiss, DoDEA Associate Director
for Education; COL Thomas J. Gibbons, US PACOM J11.
They attended small and large group sessions, provided
by DoDEA and DoDDS Pacific personnel, and participated
in a panel discussion with DoDDS Pacific division chiefs.
The
conference gave administrators a deeper understanding
of the relationship between standards-based reforms
and DoDDS Pacifics Leading Learning initiative
as well as insights about the power of instructional
best practices.
