Information and cautions on using SAT scores

The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT !: Reasoning Test), commonly known as the SAT, is the most widely taken college entrance exam in America. According to the College Board, the SAT is a measure of developed verbal and mathematical abilities important for success in college. It is designed to predict success in the first year of college and supplements the student’s secondary school record. Individual student scores are reported in 10 point increments that range in value from 200-800 with the national average around 500. According to the SAT publisher, scores tend to decline with higher participation rates.
