DoDEA has structured the instructional content of many of PTS courses in such a way that will allow the student to earn a nationally recognized certification for the student’s knowledge and skill accomplishment. In many cases commercial course outlines, instructional materials, mid-course assessments and evaluations have been fully adopted by DoDEA as the content of our PTS courses. These courses lead the student through all of the modules and units of study necessary to prepare the student for an end of course certification examination.
Students in a PTS course with an aligned certification examination must demonstrate success throughout their study of the PTS course modules and units to qualify for a DoDEA funded testing voucher. The qualifying criterion for each certification examination varies from one year to the next, and that information is communicated to the teacher for each PTS course during the school year.
Currently, the following nationally recognized certifications are available for students enrolled in selected PTS courses.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certification
- CompTIA Certified Computer Technician A+ Certification
- Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) PhotoShop Certification
- American Hotel and Lodging Association Educational Institute’s Certified Rooms Division Specialist (CRDS) Certification
- National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation’s National ProStart Certificate of Achievement
- Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certifications for Word (Core and Expert), PowerPoint, Excel (Core and Expert), and Access.
Although the testing process differs for each certification examination program and the testing sites may be at different for each school location, it is important to note that each certification examination session meets stringent testing standards. These sessions may be conducted through an on-line testing at the school with monitoring by the teacher, proctored at the base education center or at a commercial testing center. Students in all DoDEA Pacific high schools have the same potential to earn a wide variety of nationally recognized certifications as a result of their study in our PTS courses.
