The kindergarten programs in the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Pacific are full day programs. Research supports the effectiveness of full day kindergarten programs. Developmentally appropriate full day kindergarten programs provide positive academic, social, and emotional benefits for young children. In full day programs children have more opportunities to participate in project-based activities, interactive learning, and more active exploration. The full day schedule allows for additional emphasis on standards-based instruction in all areas with special emphasis on problem solving, inquiry, language development, social skills, and literacy. Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 1 to be eligible for Kindergarten.
