Elementary English Language Arts

DoDEA Pacific is committed to providing rich and varied experiences with literacy. In grades K-12, DoDEA Pacific has literacy programs in place that support all learners.

Elementary ELA Programs:
Elementary language arts classrooms depict our youngest students working in an environment rich in signs, symbols, words, numbers, and art. Grades K-3 standards focus on developing students’ reading, writing, and listening/speaking/viewing skills. Starting in grade 4, students also begin to work on conventions, grammar, usage and literature. The core reading program uses Scholastic’s Literacy Place as its adopted curriculum.

Support for struggling readers in the elementary schools is provided through the Pacific Literacy Project. The Pacific Area Literacy Project is a three-tiered approach to providing reading instruction so that all children will be successful.
